Egress In-Pool Training
NW Aviation Conference & Trade Show

We are very excited to not only once again offer a seminar on egress training and aircraft water ditching... but also offer participants an opportunity to participate in hands-on pool training.

Emergency Underwater Egress Course

Saturday & Sunday, February 20 & 21, 2010
Cost $99 for SWET training - limit 40 participants

Through a hands-on process of introductory seminars, pilots have the opportunity to get into the Shallow Water Egress Trainer (SWET) and be inverted in a controlled and safe environment.

The egress introductory classroom seminars will be held at the NWAC&TS and are open to all pilots with no registration needed. Pool sessions require pre-registration.

Register NOW for 2010 Egress Training; Space is limited to 40 active participants (pool session). First come- first served. Egress participants are invited to FREE Crewmember Emergency Training FRIDAY.

Registration Fee: ( With 3 hour pool session) $99

I am interested in attending Crewmember Emergency Training:

I.
Survival Workshop: Egress/ Ditching Basics
Emergency Response International (ERI)
South Foyer (A)
Saturday 11:45 a.m. | Sunday 11:30 a.m.

The preliminary academic instruction focuses on orientation to the ditching environment, the importance of reference points, likely occurrences after impact, strike envelope and restraint systems, deceleration forces and cabin preparation, transition from the air environment to the water environment inside the cabin, and obstacles to egress.

II.
Shallow Water Egress Trainer (SWET)

Emergency Response International (ERI)
Holiday Inn Express, Puyallup WA
Saturday 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. | Sunday 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

The practical pool exercise familiarizes participants with the cockpit or fuselage of an inverted ditched aircraft. After specific instructions on egress procedures and guidelines for avoiding panic in disorienting situations, instructors will demonstrate how the process works in the ditching simulator.

Each student will then enter the simulator - Shallow Water Egress Trainer (SWET)- floating in approximately (5) five feet of water. The simulator will then invert and students will perform appropriate actions to safely exit the “aircraft” (i.e. Breaking the communications cord, maintaining a reference point, remaining in the seat until all motion stops, disconnecting shoulder and seat harnesses and exiting the device).

After successfully demonstrating the ability to exit the SWET, students will ride the device again for a vision impaired simulation (with blackout goggles). Students will also demonstrate proper use and operation of available floatation equipment.

The experience emphasizes the essential nature of reference points for orientation, clear thinking, and familiarization with procedures, equipment and most of all surroundings. Where necessary, students will be given additional time and experience in the simulator to capture essential skills.

Why is it important that every pilot who flys over water experience Egress Training?

Statistics show every single day of the year an aircraft for any variety of reasons, end its flight unscheduled in water, unfortunately not all occupants survived.

Once an aircraft has ditched inverted in water unexpectedly, many occupants immediately panic and may become disorientated and waste the precious few seconds they have, trapped and helpless.

schedulePilots are more familiar with their aircraft doors and exits, although they too are totally out of their element once immersed in cold water, and the majority also have difficulty escaping.

Being upside down with insufficient air, coupled with confinement, our minds automatically go into survival mode pumping adrenalin and increasing heart rates which ultimately speed up the burning desire for air.

Through training in a safe warm environment with specialized equipment the opposite takes place, and few later have difficulty returning to the surface under control. Pilots and passengers once egress trained, become well versed in what to expect in the event they become unlucky enough to be involved in an aircraft ditching.

"Underwater egress training is invaluable for any pilot who flies regularly over water, regardless of the type of aircraft flown.

The classroom session lasts one hour (1) and is conducted at the Showplex during the regular conference hours. The pool session lasts three ( 3) hours and is conducted in an indoor pool at the Holiday Inn Express.

To register for the SWET Egress Pool training, please contact Rachel at 866-9227469 and select day you would prefer to conduct training. One hour classroom instruction is mandatory.
